TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon Chronograph Review with Video Demonstration

The all-new TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon Chronograph is the embodiment of everything that made the 01 so popular but with added horological enhancements and aesthetic improvements.

The addition of the tourbillon complication to the design is what makes this watch something to behold. Whereas the skeletonized dial used to be the primary focal point on the watch, the eyes are now drawn to the even more mesmerizing flying tourbillon complication which is housed in a cage comprised of titanium and carbon and runs at 4Hz making it a very fast 1-minute tourbillon.

The whole point of a tourbillon complication is to make a watch even more accurate. On a side note, I find it funny that some startups create these Kickstarter campaigns bashing respected and established watchmakers like TAG Heuer and promoting "the first affordable tourbillon" that can only offer +/- 25 seconds per day accuracy. So you'd be getting something that may look cool but it pointless. Yes, there are cheaply made tourbillons out there but none that come with a COSC certificate and a Chronometer designation like the TAG Heuer 02T Tourbillon which has a minimum accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day..

TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon Complication

At the moment, the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02T is the only COSC-certified chronometer at such a low price range that has both a tourbillon and chronograph complication. It features high complications and high accuracy thanks to the Chronometer designation and all at a lower than expected price.

The TAG Heuer 02T series has only a few models currently which include the car5a8y.fc6377 seen here with its titanium case and black rubber & leather strap and keeping the size consistent with its predecessor, the 02T stands boldly on the wrist at 45mm, it doesn't feel as heavy as it looks because of lightweight materials used in its construction and thanks to the skeletonized dial and very striking tourbillon, this watch is guaranteed to turn some heads.

Another similar model, car5a8y.ft6072, is available with a brown calfskin leather strap that has black rubber backing on the band. Model numbers car5a8yft6072 (with brown leather strap) and the black-strapped car5a8yfc6377 have a TAG Heuer list price of $15,900.

Caliber Heuer 02T movement

The Heuer 02T has a modular construction making it easy to replace and change the straps and parts. The chronograph pushers are carbide coated at the base of each button and sport a titanium top with a lovely satin finish.

On the higher end of this series, you have the black and rose gold version of the Heuer 02T. The middle of the case is constructed of finely brushed titanium that is coated in black carbide. The lugs are in 18kt rose gold and are both brushed and polished. You can also see rose gold on the tip of the crown which is carbide coated in black at the base. This watch is model number car5a5y.fc6377 and has (for obvious reasons) a higher price tag with a list price of $20,200. It appears that TAG Heuer is trying to inch its way into the higher-end market.
