Oris Audi Sport Limited Edition Review: Celebrating A Strategic Partnership Year After Year

Time to rev those engines!

As the official timekeeper for Audi Sport, Oris releases a new Limited Edition Oris Audi Sport, their third segment solidifying their partnership.

Oris strengthens their partnership with Audi Sport in the WEC (World Endurance Championship), a relationship that started in 2014 and issues a third limited edition chronograph. In the new, 3rd installment in their limited edition Audi Sport series, Oris outfits their new chronograph watch with a "vertical countdown", an essential innovation on a circuit. The German team is to the automotive industry, what Oris is to the Swiss watchmaking industry; high-performance mechanics, precision engineering, and impeccable design style at an attainable price tag.

During the last day of Le Mans, Oris unveiled a new sports room dedicated to the solid 13-time winner of this renowned race. Audi assumed two-hybrid R18 prototypes, one of which eventually finished on the podium at the end of the race bearing the number 8.

The Oris Audi Sport Limited Edition Watches Review

Oris has made a point to create new Oris Audi Sport limited edition watches to celebrate each year of their relationship.

[ First Oris Audi Sport Model # 01 774 7661 7481-Set]

The Oris first limited edition Audi Sport was a 44mm watch released at the onset of their partnership back in 2014. This watch is encased in titanium and has a silver dial with luminous numerals, hour and minute hands. The chronograph has a large red central seconds hand counter with a 30 minute sub-dial counter at the 12 o'clock position, a 12-hour sub-dial counter and date window at the 6 o'clock position and a linear small seconds indicator at the 9 o'clock position. A tachymetric scale is displayed on the bezel to measure speed. Inside the watch beats a 25 jewel movement at 28,800 vph. The Oris 774 caliber  uses a Sellita SW 500 base and features a 48-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a black calfskin leather band with sporty perforated holes and white stitching.

[ Second Oris Audi Sport Model # 01 778 7661 7784-Set LS]

The Oris Limited Edition Audi Sport II was introduced in 2015 during the 2 nd year of their partnership with Audi Sport. The black DLC coated titanium case houses an Oris 778 caliber with a Sellita SW 500 base movement beating at 28,800 vph. Like the first watch in this series it also contains 25 jewels and has a power reserve of about 48 hours. What makes this watch different from the flagship model in the series is a black dial and a day/date function at the 3 o'clock position. Oris also designed this watch with tachymeter scale on the bezel and uses a black, red and white color palette giving it a more serious performance racing look and feel.

You'll notice that the format of the chronograph sub-dials is different on the second model with only a 30-minute sub-dial at the 12 o'clock position and as on the original, you can find a linear small seconds indicator at the 9 o'clock position.  The watch comes with a black calfskin leather band with sporty perforated holes and white stitching.

[ Third Oris Audi Sport  Watch Model # 01 774 7661 7784-Set RS]

The Oris Limited Edition Audi Sport III was recently introduced in celebration of their 3 rd year of their partnership with Audi Sport. The black DLC plated titanium case houses an Oris 774 caliber with a Sellita SW 500 base movement beating at 28,800 vph / 4 Hz. Like the 1st and 2nd watches in this series, the 3rd Oris Audi Sport also contains 25 jewels and has a power reserve of about 48 hours. What makes this watch different from the previous 2 models in the series is a black dial and a date window at the 6 o'clock position. Oris also designed this watch with tachymeter scale on the bezel and uses a black, red and white color palette giving it a more serious performance racing look and feel.

The format of the chronograph sub-dials is different on the third model with a non-linear small seconds indicator at the 9 o' clock. There are two more sub-dials, a thirty minute sub-dial counter at the 12 o'clock position and a 12 hour sub-dial located at 6 o'clock position. This limited edition Oris watch only has 500 units to sell worldwide. The watch comes with a rubber strap with sporty perforated holes to stay consistent with the look of the first two watches in the series. The full black dial has red accents on the index hours markers and large central seconds hand.
