Omega Aqua Terra GMT Review

Today we’ll review a special edition Omega Aqua Terra 150m GMT. Let’s get started!

Omega Aqua Terra GMT Review

While this watch is a special edition, the review applies (at least internally) to all the rest of the Omega Aqua Terra 150m GMTs in the series which all run on the same movement. The only major difference would be purely aesthetic differences.

At first glance the Aqua Terra GMT is a handsome watch, to say the least, it’s balanced well designed with applied tapered index hour markers. Like the other models in the series, the hour markers are almost like an elongated triangle in shape with a two-tone design incorporating the luminous material.

The hour, minute, and seconds hand rest above the GMT hand and have a luminous fill for maximum visibility in low-light conditions. The GMT hand also contains some luminous material in the triangle-shaped tip. The GMT hand is a short, red-tipped arrow-shaped hand that points to a GMT hour track in the middle of the dial. Because it is a 24-hour track that means that the GMT sweeps around the dial only once every 24 hours independently while the regular hour hand makes two full rotations around the dial per day. Most GMT/Dual time watches don’t operate this way which is what makes this unique.

Most of the models in this series come on either a black alligator leather strap, a steel bracelet, or an 18kt rose gold bracelet. This model featured here is the Aqua Terra GMT GoodPlanet Special Edition which pays tribute to the GoodPlanet Foundation and all the fantastic work they do.

The case measures 43mm and uses a combination of a polished and a brushed finish. The fixed bezel has a polished finish, the lugs have a vertically brushed finish on the front-facing facet, but the beveled sides use a polished finish. The side of the case has a brushed finish. The winding crown and case back are also beautifully polished.

Can I swim with an Aqua Terra?

Yes, thanks to the screw-down crown and the 150m water resistance rating swimming with the Aqua Terra GMT is safe for the watch. Just don't take any hot showers wearing one.

The case back with a see-through sapphire crystal reveals the automatic Omega in-house caliber 8605 powering this watch. This self-winding movement is a 3.5Hz caliber oscillating at a rate of 25,200 vph and contains a total of 38 jewels. It has an incredible resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 Gauss.

Omega uses a balance spring made of Si14 which is magnetic resistance silicon. It also uses Omega’s Co-Axial escapement. The caliber is beautifully decorated with a lovely arabesque finishing method.

The Aqua Terra is a staple in the Seamaster collection. It’s a more casual water-resistant watch that is not made for any professional diving per se but is perfect for some light swimming and can be worn while taking a cold shower.

This model has a reference # of 231.92.43.22.04.001 and comes on a 43mm titanium case with a blue fabric strap with white stitching on the outside. A soft, calfskin leather lining is stitched and sewn to the inside of the strap using a blue-colored thread and the strap is fastened with a push-button deployant (folding) buckle.

In summary, this watch is an excellent choice for those that need a watch that they can wear every day and has a second time zone feature that is perfect for those that travel or who work between two different time zones and need the reminder of what time it is in the secondary location.

Is Omega Aqua Terra a dress watch?

Not necessarily. It can be worn dressed up and is categorically a more sporty watch but there are models that would look great dressed up or dressed down.

Is Omega Aqua Terra a good watch?

The Omega Aqua Terra is a very versatile watch and has features that help those that need to keep track of the time in more than a single time zone. This is especially useful for those that either conduct business in or with a foreign country or region, are frequent travelers, and jet-setters.
